Places to Visit in Chopta
Tungnath meaning “the lord of peaks” is located at an altitude of 12,070ft. It is the Tritiya Kedar of the Panch Kedar in the Himalayas. Most of the people come here for the chopta tungnath trek. Tungath is one of the highest shiva temples in the world and is the highest of the five Panch Kedar temples.
Chandrashila Trek :
Chandrashila “The Moon Rock” is a summit of tungnath. Located at a height of 13000ft above sea level. It offers a mesmerizing view of the majestic Himalayan peaks like Kedarnath dome, Chaukhamba, Trishul and Nanda Devi.
Chandrashila is one of the popular treks of Uttarakhand that can be undertaken throughout the year.

Stay at Chandrashila:
It is a summit at a staggering height of 4000m. There is no accommodation available at the peak, also camping is not allowed as well. The best advice is to find a place to stay in Chopta.
It is a small village located 20km before Chopta. The village is enclosed by oak and rhododendron trees and resides calmly in the lap of the Himalayas. Sari village or Saari gaon is the base camp for a beautiful lake Deoria Tal.
During winters if the hotels in Chopta are closed due to snowfall. Then you can get hotels and homestays in the Sari Region for your stay. You can visit the village for a peaceful getaway and to enjoy the peace of nature. You can enjoy the local cuisines, visit temples, you can even trek to chandrashila.

Sari village – Deorital – Rohini Bugyal – Chopta – Tungnath – Chandrashila
Deoria Tal is a magical lake situated at an altitude of 2438 meters above sea level. During the early morning on a clear day, This lake blesses the tourists with breathtaking reflections of Chaukhamba peaks on its crystal clear water.
Deoriatal is an easy and weekend trek for beginners. One can also extend their trek to Bisuri Tal, Chopta via Rohini Bugyal and even to Tungnath and Chandrasila.
Situated in the fascinated land of Uttarakhand, Dugalbitta or Duggalbitta is a small hamlet which is stopping point for travelers coming to Chopta or visiting Char Dham. It is situated at an astonishing height of 2600 meters and recently turned itself into a perfect getaway for the travelers.
Haridwar and Rishikesh:
If you are coming from Delhi then we suggest you take the route Delhi to Chopta via Haridwar and Rishikesh. You can start your journey in the morning from Delhi and reach Hairdwar.
There you can visit the temples and can leave to Rishikesh after Ganga arti. And can spend the night in Rishikesh. Take a day to explore the beauty of Rishikesh. After that you can roll back to the road in the morning for Chopta.
How to reach Chopta
By Train :
Haridwar is the nearest railway station which is well connected to major Indian cities. One can take a private taxi. It will take around 6hrs from Haridwar to chopta which is the base of Tungnath trek .
By Air :
Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Chopta. It would take around 6-7 hrs to reach Chopta by road in a private vehicle.
By Road :
If you are coming from Delhi there are two routes, you can take either of them. You can take the first route that is Delhi to Chopta via Haridwar. Or you can go for Delhi to Chopta via Lansdowne. The most preferable route is via Haridwar.

Best Time to Visit Chopta
The best time to visit this place is during summer is from march to June. And if you are planing to visit in winter then go for October to December.
Chopta experiences drastic changes through the seasons. The same area that looks lush and fertile in summer is arid and snowy in winter. The Chandrashila trek can be taken throughout the year.
If you want to see the snow then January would be the best time to visit. You will be refreshed by the fresh snow.
